2,3-Dimethyl-2,3-diphenylbutane

Introduction

Dicumene is an environment friendly replacement for Sb₂O₃ as flame retardant synergist for polystyrene, polypropylene. Especially in expandable polystyrene(EPS) Dicumene is commonly used as synergistic co-agents to reduce the amount of the halogenated flame retardant such as HBCD required. The qty. required is about 0.5-1%.

Application

· In HIPS dicumene requirement is about 30% that of Sb₂O₃ along with conventional FRs.

· Dicumene can be used as chain initiator because of its sufficient thermal stability at the temperatures used in suspension polymerizations.
